Welcome! I am a certified music instructor with over 35 years of teaching & performance experience. I prepare beginner, intermediate & advanced students for success on guitar, bassoon & bass guitar. I also teach clarinet, saxophone & oboe on a beginner to intermediate level. My students range in age from 7 to adult & come from areas such as Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, Shadyside, Highland Park, Point Breeze, Fox Chapel, Wexford & Mount Lebanon.
B.F.A. Music Performance, Carnegie-Mellon University, 1984
B.M. Ed. Duquesne University, 1985
Certification, Instructional Level 1-Teaching Certificate, K-12, Instrumental & Vocal, 1985.
My students have fun, successful experiences in music. They have gone on to become songwriters, band leaders & teachers. I will work with students to help achieve their goals as a musician. I teach them how to play their favorite songs! My goals are to generate a love & respect for the art of music, to help promote listening with an educated ear & to keep students playing their instruments for a lifetime of enjoyment.
Some of my students choose to explore a career path in music. My students have a 100% acceptance rate at Pittsburgh CAPA with over 20 students accepted into the music program. Many students will continue private lessons with me in order to enhance their CAPA experience. My students also have a 100% acceptance rate into music colleges, including conservatories. I prepare students for their upcoming auditions. I also coach students in music theory, ear training & solfege. These skills are required for entrance into music college, but are also useful in order to have a broad comprehension & appreciation for the art of music.
I am the Instrumental Director for the following schools:
Community Day School
Kentucky Avenue School
Lessons are private & take place in my Squirrel Hill home. The rate is $25 per half hour.
